Respondus LockDown Browser Required This quiz requires Respondus LockDown Browser. Please launch Respondus LockDown Browser to take this quiz or view your quiz results. In order to take exams in your Canvas course, you will need to download and use Respondus Lockdown Browser, which is a secure browser that will prohibit you from using other programs on your computer while you are taking some tests. We strongly recommend you download this browser off campus, as you may have difficulties downloading it on campus. Then download and install LockDown Browser. Setup To ensure LockDown Browser and the webcam are set up properly, do the following: Start LockDown Browser, log into uab.instructure.com, and select this course. Locate and select the Help Center button on the LockDown Browser toolbar. Run the Webcam Check and, if necessary, resolve any issues.

Classroom for Online Courses (Canvas). In addition, Delgado Community College provides Respondus Lockdown Browser (RLDB) and Monitor Tool. RLDB is free to download. The link is specific for Delgado Community College and you will need to obtain the link from your instructor. If your instructor uses RLDB with Monitor, a webcam will be required. LockDown Browser® is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within a learning management system. Download the application from within your Canvas course. In your Canvas course, in the left-side column, click 'Help' and select 'Download Lockdown Browser' at the top of the options.

  • Login - Logging in – Log in with your standard username (everything before the ‘@’ symbol of your HSU email address) and whatever password you set up. If you haven’t set up a password yet, you’ll need to follow the “Forgot Password?” link on the login page before following the steps it provides.

3rd party LMS – Some professors may choose to use a publisher’s LMS like McGraw Hill or Cengage. These are not supported through Henderson. You will need to contact your professor or a representative with that company if you need assistance with that technology.

TechSmith Relay/Knowmia – Henderson's official screen capturing and video recording system for all faculty, staff, and students with a Henderson email address (@reddies.hsu.edu or @hsu.edu). Make recordings that can easily be shared through Canvas while also giving you access to track views, include questions during the video, and even do some minor editing. It can also be used outside of Canvas, but all users must use a Relay/Knowmia account to create or view content.

  • Login - or go to henderson.techsmithrelay.com. Use your Henderson email address to sign up and sign in. You should NOT be asked for a keycode. If you are, please open a support ticket here.
  • TechSmith Fuse (mobile App) (this link has the download for Android and Apple products plus tutorials).

YouTube – You are welcome to record using whatever recording program you want and upload the recording to your own YouTube channel (using a personal Google account).

Virtual meeting spaces

Zoom – This creates a video conferencing session that can invite people with or without a zoom account. Some faculty will choose to use Zoom. Be sure to log in with the preferred link your professor provides.

Google Meet – Part of Henderson's Google Suite for Education account. Some faculty will choose to use Google Meet. Students do not need a Google account to attend a Google Meet.

BigBlueButton – Built into Canvas as Conferences and designed to be a virtual classroom. Recordings are available for 14 days.

Online Proctoring

Respondus Lockdown Browser - LockDown Browser 'locks down' the browser on a computer or tablet. Students are unable to copy, print, access other applications, or visit other websites during an online exam.

  • 24/7 Live Chat support – Respondus Monitor has live chat support (with real people) that can be accessed at any time.

Respondus Monitor - Respondus Monitor is a fully automated proctoring solution that enables students to take online exams at any time of the day or night, without pre-scheduling. Students use a webcam to record themselves during an exam. Respondus Monitor MUST be used with LockDown Browser.

  • Students will check out webcams at the Huie Library to use on the 2nd and 3rd floors and the 4 computers in the small Huie Library classroom.

Online Plagiarism & Writing Assistance

Grammarly - Grammarly is a grammar, spelling, and context checker designed to assist students and faculty with assorted writing projects. Grammarly provides a Chrome plug-in that provides real-time writing assistance. Grammarly has a plagiarism checker.

Respondus Monitor for students

Respondus Monitor is an online test proctoring software system integrated into Canvas. It is an additional feature of Respondus LockDown Browser that uses a webcam to provide synchronous test proctoring.

When Respondus Monitor is enabled for a quiz or exam, students are required to use a webcam and microphone with Lockdown Browser. After the quiz is complete, an instructor can review recorded details of the assessment, with the videos available.

Respondus LockDown Browser for students

Respondus LockDown Browser™ is a secure browser for taking exams in Canvas. It prevents you from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during an assessment. If a Canvas exam requires that Respondus LockDown Browser be used, you will not be able to take the test with a standard web browser.

Lockdown Browser For Students Canvas

Respondus LockDown Browser is only used for Canvas tests. It is not be used in other areas of Canvas.

LockDown Browser is installed on the computers in both Carrier Library and Rose Library. If you’re taking a test in Canvas that requires the use of LockDown Browser, you can use any of our computers.

  1. Install Pulse Secure before you download Respondus Lockdown Browser for your JMU classes.
  2. Download the Respondus Lockdown Browser here.
    1. Note: this link will most likely detect your operating system You will likely see James Madison University above the “Install Now” button. Choose the Windows or Macintosh version if necessary. You cannot use LockDown Browser with a personally-owned Chromebook. Please let your instructor know as soon as possible if you do not have access to a compatible device.
    2. You may want to review the download instructions in the Respondus Knowledgebase.
  3. After downloading and installing LockDown Browser, use your usual web browser to navigate to your quiz in Canvas.
    1. If the quiz you are trying to take was created with New Quizzes in Canvas, LockDown Browser should automatically launch,
    2. If LockDown Browser does not automatically launch, exit your web browser. Locate LockDown Browser on your machine and launch the application. You should be taken to the Canvas login screen, where you can navigate to your quiz.
